Homemade Vanilla Coffee Syrup + 3 other Syrups and a Recipe for Coldbrew Coffee

With the summer sun continually beating down on the northern hemisphere (plus near the equator), I am going to share a little something-something to help ease pain.
First off I was only going to share the vanilla coffee syrup, but after trying the others, I could not keep the rest of the syrup recipes to myself. Secondly, though the syrups will go well with any coffee, I’ve added the coldbrew coffee recipe here so that many of you could try something special compared to the everyday plunger or the drip. Lastly, yes you can the syrups on your caffe americano or latte from your favorite coffee shop.
So here it is from Jessica at howsweeteats.com, the perfect drink for your lazy hot summer afternoon.

Time : Overnight for the Coldbrew Coffee, Few Minutes for Syrups

Ingredients : 2-4 servings depending of preference

Coldbrew Coffee
1 cup whole coffee beans
5 cups filtered water (this made a HUGE difference in how I liked iced coffee at home!)
regular ice or coffee ice cubes

Vanilla Bean Syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
1 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract or one more vanilla bean

Blackberry Syrupcoffee-I-howsweeteats.com-1
2 cups fresh blackberries
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup sugar

Cinnamon Brown Sugar Syrup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup water

Almond Syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
1 teaspoon pure almond extract

Directions :

Coldbrew Coffee

  1. Coarsely grind the coffee beans!
  2. Add them to a large bowl/pitcher/container/jar.
  3. Add the water and stir to mix.
  4. Let this mixture sit overnight in the fridge. Or at room temperature overnight.
  5. The next morning, strain the coffee through a few layers of cheesecloth or a coffee filter.
  6. Fill a glass with ice, add your desired amount of coffee and cream/milk.
  7. Go to town with the syrups!

Vanilla Bean Syrup

  1. Combine the sugar, water, scraped vanilla beans, whole bean and extract in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is bubbling.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Let cool completely before storing in a jar. I usually don’t remove the vanilla pod and just leave it in for flavor.

Blackberry Syrup

  1. Add the blackberries to a blender with the water.
  2. Puree until completely smooth and blended, then strain over a fine mesh sieve into a bowl – so all you have is blackberry juice.
  3. Combine the juice and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is bubbling.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. Let cool completely before storing in a jar. This syrup can get extra sweet due to the flavor of your berries, so feel free to play along with water and sugar ratios.

Cinnamon Brown Sugar Syrup

  1. Combine the sugar, cinnamon and water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is bubbling.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Let cool completely before storing in a jar.

Almond Syrup

  1. Combine the sugar, water and extract in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is bubbling.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Let cool completely before storing in a jar.

Finally, I’m done! Enjoy~!
